Miss Mankato, Emily Schumacher, was crowned Miss Minnesota Friday night at Treasure Island Resort and Casino Event Center in Red Wing.
She hasn’t had the opportunity to celebrate yet as her sister, Julia Schumacher, was competing Saturday for the Miss MN Teen USA title at the Ames Center in Burnsville.
Emily Schumacher is a graduate of Loyola High School and a 2022 honors graduate of Northern State University with a degree in biology and minor in chemistry. Julia Schumacher is a graduate of Mankato West High School and a student at Alabama.
The community service initiative Emily Schumacher will promote during her year of service is, “The Heart is the Matter.” She advocates for heart health and heart disease prevention. She performed a tap dance to “Elvis Has Left the Building” as her talent.
She is to represent Minnesota in next year’s Miss America pageant.
“I have witnessed the project work that Emily has done in the community of Mankato for many years, since she was a teenager,” said Shelly Bartlett, who was on hand for the crowning. “It is a well-rounded program to save others time, energy, and inspire others to be heart healthy,” she added.
Bartlett was the volunteer director of the Miss Mankato Scholarship Organization for nearly 20 years, this year taking a different role with the Miss MN organization. Emily entered as an at-large candidate, using the Miss Mankato title, she said.
She served as Schumacher’s director when she was Miss North Mankato Teen and again for two previous times as Miss Mankato.
