MANKATO — The Minnesota State men’s hockey team will play Western Michigan at 4 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament’s West Regional at Scheels Arena in Fargo N.D. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
Western Michigan leads Division I averaging 4.05 goals per game, while MSU leads the nation in goals allowed per game at 1.47.
The University of Minnesota will play UMass at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the other regional semifinal. The winner of each game will play in the regional final at 3 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Mavericks (27-8-3) secured the CCHA’s automatic bid into the tournament.
