Assembly member Brian Miller, R-New Hartford, has announced his appointment to the New York State Assembly Committee on Education by Minority Leader Ed Ra.
“I am grateful, and want to thank Leader Ra for the opportunity to serve on the Assembly Education Committee,” Miller said. “New York is home to dedicated teachers and strong school communities, including right here in the 122nd Assembly District. From our local districts to our outstanding BOCES programs, educators are preparing students for both college and career pathways. State policy must support the work happening in our classrooms every day and strengthen that work, and I look forward to contributing to thoughtful discussions that support our schools.”
Miller is currently on the Higher Education Committee and “emphasized that his new role will allow him to focus on the full spectrum of education policy, from Pre-K through college,” according to a news release from his office.
“Having worked on higher education issues, I understand the importance of preparing students not only for graduation, but for lifelong success,” Miller said. “I look forward to examining education policy from early childhood through the senior year of college, supporting our great teachers, and making smart investments in our schools that benefit students across New York State.”
“I am also excited to work alongside Ranking Member Doug Smith on the Committee on Education. Doug has been a strong advocate on education issues, and I look forward to collaborating with him to advance policies that benefit our local schools, teachers and communities.”
Miller will also continue serving as ranking member on the Transportation Committee, as well as a member of the Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Higher Education, and Real Property committees. He remains Chairman of the Minority Conference Steering Committee, according to the release.
“As always, my focus remains on delivering results for the 122nd Assembly District and ensuring that state policies reflect the needs of our local communities,” Miller said.
The 122nd Assembly district consists of parts of Oneida, Herkimer, Otsego and Madison counties.
