The city of Dalton will host a ribbon-cutting for the Mill Line Trail on Wednesday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be next to the pedestrian bridge across Mill Creek where the Mill Line and Mallard Pass Spur connect. The public is invited.
The Mill Line Trail has been open to the public for several months but officials have waited until the final details and finishing touches were taken care of before holding an official celebration for the completion of the project. Now that all of the signage and markers along the trail have been installed, that ceremony is set.
The trail was opened to the public in late March after nearly nine months of construction. Even before it was opened, the trail was getting use from residents eager to walk, run or ride bikes along the paved trail.
In the three months since it was opened, it’s been unusual to see the parking lot for the trail empty. The trail receives frequent use from residents and visitors alike. The Mill Line is a paved trail connection between Haig Mill Lake Park and the old Eagle Walk trailhead on Chattanooga Avenue. The Mill Line mostly follows the footprint of the old Eagle Walk Trail, a footpath created by local Boy Scouts along Mill Creek. It consists of a 10-foot wide paved trail suitable for bicyclists, runners and walkers.
Parking for the ceremony will be available in the cleared land off of North Thornton Avenue near the intersection with the North Dalton Bypass.
