NEWBURYPORT — The Maudslay Arts Center Summer Concert Series (MAC) welcomes back The Mike Monaghan Jazz Quintet on Saturday, July 20, at 7 p.m.
Those who like mainstream jazz and the Great American Songbook, will love The Mike Monaghan Jazz Quintet. A freelance musician, Monaghan is a jazz player, a woodwind specialist, and a saxophone soloist in both the jazz and classical worlds. His work includes numerous performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and he has been a regular player and soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra for almost 40 years.
Come back on Sunday for Acoustic Roadshow playing acoustic versions of popular harmony-rich songs from an earlier era.
This quartet of seasoned performers showcases both the vocal and instrumental talents of each of its members: Mike Payette on bass and vocals, Chris Leadbetter on guitars and mandolin, Eddie Scheer on drums and vocals, and jazz blues guitarist Mike DiBari.
With a focus on honing the close harmonies of Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, the Beatles, the Doobie Brothers and other classic rock favorites, their unplugged approach to classic and contemporary rock is a perfect fit for MAC.
Upcoming Saturday shows include: New Black Eagle Jazz Band on July 27, Hillyer Festival Orchestra on Aug 10, Gray Sargent Trio on Aug. 17, and The Don Campbell Band on Aug. 24.
Upcoming Sunday shows include: The Ruta Beggars on July 28, The Bobby Keyes Trio on Aug. 11, and Amanda Carr on Aug. 18.
