MIDLAND — A Midland man was seriously injured in a four-wheeler accident Saturday evening, closing state Route 936 for about three hours while accident reconstruction was performed, according to officials.
“It was a single occupant on a four-wheeler that crashed approximately 100 feet south of Klondike Road on Upper Georges Creek Road,” Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Director Roger Bennett said.
“Medical personnel on the first-arriving fire department units immediately began providing patient care.”
The victim was transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, by Maryland State Police Trooper 3 helicopter based in Frederick. His condition was not available Sunday afternoon.
An Allegany County Joint Communications Center spokesperson said units were dispatched at 7:45 p.m. to the intersection of Klondike and Upper Georges Creek roads.
Bennett said the approximately 40-year-old male operator was not wearing a helmet.
“It looked like the four-wheeler was operating north on Upper Georges Creek Road, just south of Klondike Road when it left the roadway, ran into a ditch and struck a wall,” Bennett said.
Units from Midland and Shaft volunteer fire departments and ambulances from Allegany County Department of Emergency Services responded to the scene.
A DES ambulance transported the victim from the scene to a landing zone at the Shaft Volunteer Fire Department.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while Maryland State Police crash reconstruction teams investigated.
The name of the victim or contributing causes to the accident were not provided by state police.
