Cumberland County middle school tennis program concludes on high note
The local “Aces” of the area middle schools wrapped up their season with two fantastic showings at the district doubles and singles tournaments.
In the doubles, the teams won four of the six divisions and in the singles, players came away with eight of the possible 16 medals from the event.
Coach William Taylor said, “The team really played its best tennis at the end of the year. They worked very hard the last month improving their singles and doubles strategies and it showed during these tournaments.”
Prior to the tournaments, both the boys and the girls’ teams finished with a 5-1 overall team record, defeating middle school teams from Putnam, White and Rhea counties. The middle school team is a co-op with players from all feeder schools.
Taylor says the primary goal of the middle school program is to introduce the kids to a sport they can play for a lifetime and also help improve participation and performance for both of the high school programs.
