The Cumberland County Board of Education will seek public input on four middle school options during two meetings in next month.
As discussed in the board’s work session Thursday, the meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the auditoriums of both high schools. The first meeting will be Sept. 14 at Stone Memorial High School, with the second meeting Sept. 15 at Cumberland County High School.
Members of the public wishing to speak will be given three minutes to discuss the four options under consideration:
Option 1: Two new middle schoolsOption 2: Retrofit two existing elementary schools to middle schoolsOption 3: Retrofit one existing elementary school and build one new middle schoolOption 4: All county students attend one high school, with the other high school converted to a middle school
The tentative timeline calls for compiling public comments and feedback in October and November, with an option to be selected in December and presented to county commission in January.
