North Andover Zak Zinter, noted as one of the top offensive lineman in the country for the University of Michigan, was carted off the field after suffering a serious lower leg injury in the second half of their game with Ohio State.
A senior, Zinter, at 6-foot-6, 310 pound guard was named a pre-season and mid-season All-American leading the Wolverines offensive line.
Zinter was blocked into an Ohio State player when the injury occurred.
FOX Sports did not show a replay saying it was “ugly.”
Zinter was expected to be a first round draft pick. In fact, he was tabbed an early round pick last year, but opted to return to Michigan to “help our team win a national championship.”
His parents, Paul and Tiffany Zinter, were on the field while doctors were with him before being carted on a stretcher.
As Zinter was taken via stretcher off the field, Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy hugged both his parents.
Zinter attended Buckingham, Browne & Nichols prep school in Boston before heading to Michigan.
Zak’s younger brother and former Central Catholic star, Preston Zinter, is a freshman linebacker at Notre Dame.
We will have updates on the injury when news comes in.
