A week after taking down the best in Massachusetts, the Methuen High girls 4×200 relay is ready for New England’s finest.
The Ranger quartet of Bella Fiore, Kiera Fitzpatrick, Alysha Santana Sosa and Lauren Quarm is seeded fifth at the New England Track Championship on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
“My relay is super excited for New Englands,” said Fiore. “It’s super thrilling to see some new faces from around New England, and it motivates us to push even harder against different competitors. We’re ready and confident to take on tough competition and really test how hard we can push ourselves!”
The Rangers’ top time of 1:45.98 trails three teams from Connecticut and one from Rhode Island.
Anchor Quarm is also seeded fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.11).
“We’re going into Saturday’s meet with a positive attitude,” said Quarm. “We’re very excited to compete, since we didn’t get to run at New Englands last year. I can’t wait to see how we perform on Saturday.”
Worth the wait for the Granite State
After waiting nearly a month, Pinkerton senior star Matt Morrison is ready to return to competition at New Englands.
Morrison is seeded fourth in the 300-meter (35.29), sixth in the 55-meter (6.42) and is a member of the 4×200 relay that’s seeded ninth (1:32.10).
“It’s exciting to know this is my last indoor season competing with the best sprinters in New England,” said Morrison, who last competed at New Hampshire Division Is on Feb. 8. “I’m stoked to compete, but it’s a sad experience knowing it’ll be my last one. New Englands is always highly competitive, and when it comes to the sprints, it’s usually anyone’s race.”
Timberlane sophomore Danielle Bates is seeded sixth in the girls high jump (5-4). She placed third at outdoor New Englands last spring.
“I’m very excited to compete at New Englands this year, and I’m proud to represent Timberlane with my teammate Charlotte (Beaudoin, seeded 12th in 600),” said Bates. “I’m excited to have gotten this far and still hope to jump higher.”
Another top competitor from New Hampshire is Pelham senior Colby Crear, who is seeded sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (7.48).
“I’m thankful to be able to compete at New Englands,” said Crear. “It’s my first year competing at this meet, because I was injured last year. I’m excited to be competing against athletes at this high level and represent New Hampshire. I’m hoping the competition will push me to PR.”
Pinkerton’s Sarah Rzasa is seeded ninth in the 600 (1:39.31).
Goncalves eyes another title
After an undefeated season in Massachusetts, Haverhill senior Maddie Goncalves will look to earn her first New England title. She is seeded second in the shot put (41-3).
“Heading into New Englands, I’m feeling hopeful,” said Goncalves. “I have a strong chance of placing highly at this meet, which is exciting to say the least. I proudly get to represent Massachusetts among the best in New England. I’ve worked so hard to get this far, which is so rewarding. Placing amongst the top athletes at this meet would be the best way to end my indoor track and field career.”
Central Catholic’s Arianna DiPietro is seeded fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.40).
