METHUEN — Trumpets blared, children marched and veterans were filled with pride during the annual parade Tuesday morning.
The Veterans Day parade began at the American Legion Post 122, 200 Broadway, stopped at the Walnut Grove Cemetery off Grove Street for a brief ceremony and then returned to the post. The event was attended by students, first responders, veterans and other members of the community.
Students from the Tenney Grammar School brought a banner recognizing their school with them on the march, while younger kids made small posters to honor veterans.
The Methuen High Ranger Marching band also participated in the parade and ceremony alongside high school Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets, La Banda Della Rosa and other students.
Last year’s parade grand marshal, Dalis Deparis, 103, was unable to participate this year due to illness. Deparis is a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
This year’s grand marshal was scheduled to be World War II U.S. Navy veteran Don Rousseau.
