FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Messiah improved to 2-0 with a five-set win over Carroll Christian on Tuesday.
The Warriors won with scores of 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 19-25 and 17-15.
“Starting our first season with a second win over a much bigger Carroll team was a big boost for our young, small team,” Messiah head coach John Wall said. “The Patriots had all the weapons they needed to dominate us, but our Messiah team showed why we are called the Warriors.”
Jenna Bender recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 17 digs and a team-high 14 kills.
She was one ace shy of a quadruple-double, adding two assists and a block.
Kaitlyn Bender also recorded a triple double, tallying 22 saves, 12 kills and 15 digs with seven aces and an assist.
“Kaitlyn’s speed frustrated the Patriots’ big hitters, forcing them to second guess themselves and commit hitting errors,” Wall said.
Setter Danika Morrison had a double-double with 18 assists, 14 points, six aces, six digs and three kills.
Kenzie Kazazic finished with 10 points, six digs and five aces while Bella Halbritter added eight points, seven digs, four assists, three kills and an ace.
Delaney Nicely had five digs, four points, three kills, two aces and a block.
“I don’t know if loyalty is a team trait or not, but this Messiah team has already learned the importance of trusting each other,” Wall said. “This is how we play, and this is how we will pull off wins this season.”
Messiah plays in a quad match on Saturday at Lighthouse alongside Hancock and Eukarya.
