A Meridian man remained in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on Friday after being arrested following a standoff with law enforcement officers at a residence earlier in the week.
At approximately 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, the East Mississippi Drug Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Fredrick Jones on a charge of sale of methamphetamine within 1,500 feet of a church in the 3700 block of 43rd Street in Meridian, according to a press release from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.
Jones barricaded himself inside the attic of the residence, the release stated. After a few hours, agents were able to apprehend Jones. During this incident, agents gathered enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant for the residence. During the search, according to the release, agents found methamphetamine, guns, money, and a money counter.
Jones is being charged with two counts of sale of methamphetamine within 1,500 feet of a church, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Jones is is being held without bond because he was already out of jail on a previous bond for a felony domestic violence charge, according to the release.
