A Long Island man reportedly shot a Meredith man during a dispute Wednesday, June 10 on Houghtaling Hollow Road in Meredith, according to a news release from New York State Police.
Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, there was a dispute between Ryan H. Gregory, 26, of Coram, and a neighbor on Houghtaling Hollow Road in Meredith. During the altercation, Gregory reportedly shot the victim and at two unoccupied vehicles, the release stated.
The victim, a 57-year-old man from Meredith who was not named in the news release, sustained non-life threatening injuries and transported himself to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. He was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment.
Troopers located Gregory at his residence on Houghtaling Hollow Road, where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender. Following several hours of negotiations with investigators and members of the New York State Police Crisis Negotiation Unit, Gregory surrendered without incident.
Gregory was transported to SP Oneonta. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree criminal use of a firearm, both Class B felonies. Additional charges are likely, the release stated.
Gregory was processed and transported to the Delaware County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
Troopers were assisted by officers from the Oneonta City Police Department and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office.
