DANVILLE — The No. 8 seed Ellsworth men’s basketball team was able to get things started on a good note on Tuesday with an 89-84 win over No. 9 South Suburban College in the second round of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
Jayden Pretty had 23 points for the Panthers (26-7) while Eesher Sign Sarai had 22 points and nine rebounds, Alex Charlotin had 19 points and four assists and Jonovan Wilkinson had 10 points.
Isaiah Green had 25 points for the Bulldogs (27-7) while AJ Abrams had 22 points, three steals and two blocks, Tanner Fields had 16 points, Gakobi McNeal had 10 points and seven rebounds and Samar Bures had nine points.
The Panthers will play top seed Des Moines Area Community College at 6 p.m. today, while the Bulldogs will play Lansing Community College in the consolation bracket Thursday at Noon.
