Medic Regional Blood Center is kicking off summer next week with its 20th annual Parrot Head Week — and donors are invited to a special grilling event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at its Crossville Donor Center at 96 Hayes St.
Those who donate blood during Parrot Head Week, May 20-24, will receive a special-edition shirt and coupons for Denton’s Orange Julius, Salsarita’s and Texas Roadhouse.
Additionally, platelet donors will receive a $25 e-gift card and are automatically part of the platelet recognition punch card program anytime they donate.
Appointments can be made online at www.medicblood.org, via the MEDIC app, or by calling 865-524-3074.
Medic is the primary blood product provider for 25 hospitals including Cumberland Medical Center and those in Covenant Health System, Blount Memorial, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Tennova Healthcare, and the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Medic recruits blood donors in 23 counties.
Blood, platelets and plasma products on the shelves now are what would be used in a trauma event, and it takes at least three days for donated blood to be processed and ready for distribution.
Medic is an independent, nonprofit organization. Blood products donated through Medic directly help community members in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. Blood donations through other collection activities or agencies are shipped out of state and throughout the nation.
