Mayor John Lombardi III said he is in no hurry to fill the vacancy for his confidential secretary after Paula Halladay Travis, who last held the position, was terminated following her arrest on welfare fraud charges last month.
“I’m taking my time,” Lombardi said. “I’m handling all the emails myself and trying to handle all the correspondence. The city clerk is helping immensely. I have advertised and received very few responses.”
Lombardi said the position is tough to fill because it is a non-represented appointment, meaning it is not within a union, and the person could be replaced when another mayor is elected.
“They work directly with me at my pleasure,” he said. “We’re presently working with Addeco to sign a contract to bring temporary assistance in.”
Lombardi said he can receive emails at mayor@lockportny.gov.
