LEWISTON — Mayor Dan Cota provided an update on the Lewiston Landing dock repairs project, saying that a slip-and-pull removable dock system is the most viable option at this time.
“As the gentleman from Georgia says, ‘It’s a muck stick,’ ” Cota described what they are looking at. The village is supposed to get updated project blueprints and a better idea for costs soon.
He added they should get more numbers for the repairs by the next village meeting and the engineering design, which they had been working on with Nussbaumer and Clarke and the dock’s manufacturer.
Lewiston Landing’s docks were damaged this past winter from ice coming in from the shoreline during the freeze-thaw cycle, rather than from the Niagara River. That left the docks unusable, with the village either refunding slip users or having their payments go toward next year.
The village had applied for a $600,000 Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grant to help cover costs, with the remaining $200,000 coming from insurance funds. These grant funds are not awarded until December and January, with the village needing to fund its own dock removal this winter.
The village board also adopted a policy for live-streaming meetings as they are still working on a new IT plan to make it possible. The board approved it by a 4-1 vote, with trustee Nicholas Conde being the one vote against.
The written policy states the village government’s desire to be more transparent and these would supplement, not replace, their requirements for the state’s open meetings law.
Cota said that the system they plan to have would be one-way only for livestreams, used for documentation, and the board would be unable to respond to comments from people watching online.
The new equipment would include at the least new dual cameras and microphones, with a previously reported cost of between $3,700 and $4,000.
