BOSTON — Charlie Cunnion will be the Massachusetts Port Authority’s next port director, a role overseeing some of the state’s most prominent maritime facilities.
Most recently, Cunnion was vice president of supply chain and customer service for CMPC Forest Products North America – a role he left five days ago. From 2010 to 2023, he was also vice president of global transportation for International Forest Products.
The port authority, whose board met Thursday morning, announced Cunnion’s appointment early Thursday afternoon.
“Charlie is an expert in supply chain management, with decades of experience across all modes of cargo transportation,” Massport CEO Rich Davey said in a statement. “His leadership, experience and strategic perspective will be invaluable to the Port of Boston as we work to strengthen operations and continue a tradition of innovation and growth.”
Cunnion will oversee the Port of Boston, which generates $8.2 billion in economic impact each year and supports more than 66,000 jobs, according to Massport.
Within the Port of Boston, the Conley Terminal supports more than 2,500 businesses throughout the state and New England so they can ship and receive products.
In 2025, the terminal moved more than 1.7 million metric tons of cargo. Additionally, Cunnion will oversee Flynn Cruiseport Boston, which reported 149 ship calls and more than 454,000 passengers in 2025, according to Massport.
Cunnion is set to start next week. Massport’s most recent port director was Lauren Gleason, who was in the role from 2024 to February 2026.
