Cumberland County’s Republican Party welcomes U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn as keynote speaker for the 2024 Reagan Day Dinner.
The dinner starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at The Center at Fairfield Glade, 128 Stonehenge Dr.
During the dinner, the Party will honor the Deputy Sheriff and Crossville Police Department Officer of the Year.
Three Cumberland County graduating seniors will be awarded 2024 Carol Conway Memorial Scholarships by the Cumberland County Republican Women’s Club.
U.S. Rep. John Rose, state Sen. Paul Bailey, state House Speaker Cameron Sexton, County Mayor Allen Foster and City Mayor R.J. Crawford will be in attendance.
Blackburn, the first woman elected to represent the Volunteer State in the U.S. Senate, was elected in 2018.
“Her leadership philosophy is based on her experiences in the private sector as a small businesswoman and author, and as a mother and grandmother,” said Linda Clark, president of the Cumberland County Republican Women.
Blackburn serves on the Deputy Whip Team and is a member of the Finance Committee; the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee; the Veterans Affairs Committee; and the Judiciary Committee.
She also serves as the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security and the Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law.
“Sen. Blackburn dedicates her public service to promoting opportunities for women and making America a more prosperous place to live,” Clark said. “While serving in the Tennessee Senate, she led a statewide grassroots campaign to defeat a proposed state income tax. Her leadership earned her a reputation as an anti-tax champion.”
Before her election to the U.S. Senate, she represented Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where Clark said she led the fight for a small, efficient federal government that is accountable to its citizens.
She continued her advocacy on behalf of creators and rights-owners, established the bipartisan Songwriters Caucus and fought for passage of the Music Modernization Act, which revolutionized music licensing processes, Clark added.
“The Senator is a bold voice for a secure border and a leader in the fight for fiscal responsibility, economic opportunity, and strategic trade policies that advance competition in the United States,” Clark added. “A staunch supporter of the military, the Senator champions policies that support active-duty service members and guardsmen, their families, and their missions at home and abroad.”
Clark said Blackburn’s commitment to protecting quality health care motivated the creation of her Rural Health Agenda, designed to expand access, support providers, and assist local leaders in making care provision a crucial aspect of economic development.
“We appreciate Senator Blackburn’s faithful service as an advocate for all Tennesseans in Washington, DC,” said Republican Party Chair RJ Crawford. “She is recognized as a valiant warrior for our state and country and we are honored that she will join us for this important dinner.”
Crawford added, “We encourage all conservative patriots to attend this special evening for great food and fellowship with like-minded neighbors and friends.”
