Residents of Marion and the surrounding community are invited to take part in a weekend of fun and entertainment as the town hosts a Fall Festival to raise funds for the Marion Fire Department.
Alderwoman Lou Ann Baylor, who is one of the organizers for the event, said the money raised from the festival will go to help the department purchase needed supplies.
“We’re raising money for the volunteer fire department to get equipment, tools and even afford some of the training that they need to have,” she said.
Baylor said the festival will be held at town hall and kick off Friday night with an adults-only blues night. Local talent King Russell will headline the evening, along with several other groups, from 6-10 p.m., she said.
“On Saturday, we’ll have our country and gospel music,” she said.
Daniel Houze will take the stage Saturday as will the This ’N That musical group, Wade Baylor and several gospel choirs visiting the area, Baylor said.
Saturday’s festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and feature a wide variety of entertainment, vendors, activities and more, she said. There will be vendors selling food, pastries, jewelry, T-shirts and more, bounce houses for the kids and a lot of fun.
“We’re also going to have the firemen boots out for donations as well,” she said.
Both Friday and Saturday are free and open to the public, Baylor said, as Marion Mayor Larry Gill wanted the festival to be accessible to all in the community.
While the festival will be an opportunity for the community to have fun, it is also a fundraiser, she said, and organizers hope the community will take advantage of the day of family fellowship and show their support for the town’s volunteer firefighters.
