EXETER — As part of its Second Sunday artist series, the Seacoast Artist Association in downtown Exeter presents fabric artist Sarah Shea Smith of Newmarket on Sunday, March 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The SAA had many requests for Sarah’s return after she presented a demonstration at the Exeter Town Hall Awards Show during the Exeter Fall Arts Tour.
Sarah has been marbling paper and fabric for two decades, having learned from Galen Berry at what was then the N.H. Institute of Art in Manchester. I
She also studied with Chena River Marblers, Dan and Regina St. John, at the North Bennett Street School in Boston, and Snow Farm in Western Massachusetts.
Although her formal education and career were in forestry and education, she finds that marbling provides the perfect balance. Much of her marbling is inspired by nature, as well as quilt patterns — another passion.
On Sunday, April 14, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the SAA will host well-known artist and teacher Tom Glover with a presentation and demo on the art of abstraction.
Glover currently teaches at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot, Maine. He has also taught at UNH and been an Artist in Residence on Appledore Island for the Shoals Marine Laboratory. He is also an oil painting restorer and works as picture framer.
The gallery is located at 130 Water Street in historic downtown Exeter.
These presentations are free, but the SAA welcomes donations to their scholarship fund. Follow the SAA on Facebook for updates, or email gallery@seacoastartist.org.
