MARBLEHEAD — Marblehead High senior Owen Coyne has died, school principal Michele Carlson shared in a statement to the school community on Friday.
Counselors are available at the school to speak to students throughout the day Friday, from 2:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, and from noon to 3 p.m.
Owen was a co-captain of the Magicians football team and a three-sport athlete. Carlson’s message included a statement from Owen’s mother, Angela Paradise, his father, Brian Coyne and his siblings, Grady, Landon and Ella, saying he “will be missed beyond words.”
“There are simply no words for the loss of a child, a brother, a captain, a teammate, a friend and a young man who is so deeply loved by so many,” the family said. “Owen brought so much joy, laughter, and light into the lives of those who knew him, and the impact he made will remain with us forever.”
“Our family is incredibly grateful for the extraordinary love, prayers and support that have surrounded Owen and all of us throughout these past days. As we try to navigate this unimaginable loss, we ask that you continue to hold Owen close in your hearts and surround all those who loved him, especially his friends and classmates, with the same love and compassion you have shown our family.”
Carlson extended her condolences to Owen’s family and all who knew him.
“As a school community, we will take care of one another in the days ahead,” Carlson said. “I am grateful for the compassion and kindness that our students and staff show one another, especially during difficult times. Please take care of yourselves and one another.”
Marblehead football was scheduled to play Danvers Friday night, but the game has been rescheduled to Saturday at 11 a.m.
