ELIZABETHTOWN — Though neither the tallest nor the fastest on the court, determination seems to be the main ingredient for Seton Catholic’s Michael Mannix as he surpassed the 1,000-point milestone in the Knights’ 65-41 MVAC victory over Boquet Valley on Tuesday night.
Needing 24 points at the start of the game, the first few were difficult to come by as the ball seemed to rim-out on what would usually be second nature to him.
“I knew it would fall later on, so I just kept my calm and kept shooting it,” he said about the first quarter.
Once he got going, though, Mannix found himself double-teamed but still managed to free himself and take a quick 10-foot jumper for a swish.
However, the game was not just about scoring as Mannix penetrated the defense, and at the last moment, dished off to a teammate for an easy lay-up.
“It’s a good accomplishment — a lot of hard work. It’s a very big moment in my career,” he commented after the game.
Mannix would finish the game with 32 points.
“I said to myself, ‘Let’s just get it over with, have a good game and get on with the season,’” he said about not achieving the feat at a home game.
Matt Dubay added 21 points and Oliver Hughes 10 for the Knights, who raced out to a 30-10 halftime lead.
Carson Leibeck, who also recently went over 1,000 points for his varsity career, led the Griffins with 11 points, and Zander Lobdell added 10
