MANKATO — A Mankato woman has been charged with first-degree burglary and fourth-degree damage to property after allegedly breaking into an apartment due to an ongoing feud, according to a court complaint.
Tecorriea Ayler-Leak, 24, also faces unlawful force or violence and assault charges.
An officer was dispatched to a Mankato residence on the evening of May 23 following a report that someone was banging on the complainant’s door with a bat. While the officer was on his way to the residence, a second caller stated someone was breaking into her friend’s apartment and there was a lot of screaming.
When the officer arrived, he spoke with a witness, who said she was in the shower when she heard a loud banging on her door. When she came out of the shower, there was an unknown number of people yelling and screaming inside her apartment, the complaint said. She observed on a camera that four people were just outside the apartment, one who broke the camera valued at about $120.
The officer then spoke to a second witness who was also inside the apartment when the banging on the door happened. The witness looked outside through the peephole and saw about 10 people standing outside the door.
The second witness said they observed a woman, later identified as Ayler-Leak, kicking on the door in a donkey-kick fashion, court documents said.
Ayler-Leak allegedly ended up kicking in the door, causing damage, and a large group of people stormed the residence.
Once Ayler-Leak was inside, she allegedly threatened to fight people in the apartment. Ayler-Leak told officers she did not break in the door but opened it. Officers noted the door had significant damage.
Blue Earth County District Court documents say the incident was reportedly the result of a feud between someone in the apartment and someone in the group outside.
