MANKATO — Mankato and St. Peter hospitals received patient safety excellence awards in a recent report, the third year in a row for each facility.
Healthgrades measured Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato and River’s Edge Hospital and Clinic based on 14 preventable patient safety events.
Earning the award indicates they’re among the 10% of hospitals with the lowest occurrence rates.
In a release, River’s Edge stated the achievement reflects its commitment to safe care.
“This recognition is such an honor; patient safety is not just about preventing harm but is also about promoting the well-being for our patients,” stated Janelle Rauchman, chief quality officer at River’s Edge Hospital. “At River’s Edge we believe strongly that every patient deserves safe and quality care which aligns with our Mission, Vision and Values. This is achieved by the hard work of our staff and their commitment to quality care.”
Healthgrades, a website used for connecting patients to hospitals, analyzed about 4,500 hospitals across the country. The four leading preventable patient safety events in the report were falls, collapsed lungs, pressure sores and bloodstream infections related to catheters, according to the release.
The other nearest hospitals receiving patient safety excellence awards were Mayo Clinic Health System facilities in Fairmont and Albert Lea.
