MANKATO — A man was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay more than $12,000 in restitution in connection to a burglary at a Mankato hobby shop in April 2023.
Anthony James Welsch, 34, was convicted on a felony receiving stolen property charge Friday in Blue Earth County District Court. He had a burglary charge in the same case dismissed, but was concurrently sentenced for a burglary charge related to a separate incident in May.
Welsch was one of three men charged after Atlantis Hobby Shop in Mankato reported a break-in on April 18. The owner reported more than $30,000 worth of trading cards had been taken, according to a criminal complaint, with three individuals caught on surveillance footage.
Stoney Ramell Johnson, 36, was convicted on a burglary charge in November for his role in the incident. He was sentenced to jail time and ordered to pay $12,571 in restitution to an insurance provider.
Tewan Terrell Latham, 43, faces a felony burglary charge and failed to appear at his last hearing in January. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Investigators found Welsch in possession of binders full of the stolen cards in May 2023, prompting the charges against him. His 13-month prison sentence will be stayed for three years while he serves probation.
Welsch’s restitution amount is the same, $12,571, as Johnson’s, to be paid to State Farm Claims. He will also perform sentence to serve in lieu of a fine.
