A Rochester man has been charged in a fatal attack that occured Wednesday in Amherst.
Tyshon D. White, 29, of Rochester, was arraigned on Friday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case on an indictment charging him with first-degree manslaughter (Class B violent felony) and one count of first-degree attempted assault (Class C violent felony).
About 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Amherst Police responded to the area of Draden Lane and Denrose Drive for a reported stabbing. The victim, 21-year-old Caden Nelipowitz, was taken by ambulance to DeGraff Hospital where he died from a sharp force injury to his lower back.
White is accused of attempting to cause serious physical injury to the victim by striking him with a vehicle. It is further alleged that White, with the intent to cause serious physical injury, stabbed the victim in the back and upper arm.
White was held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.
Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane commended the Amherst Police Department for their work in this investigation as well as the Rochester Police Department for their assistance.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin T. Wallens of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Ryan E. Thie of the Felony Trials Bureau.
