VALDOSTA — Police arrested a Stockbridge man after a Friday pursuit that ended with a dog bite.
Around noon, a caller reported seeing his stolen vehicle in the 600 block of North Lee Street, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
Officers saw the vehicle being driven recklessly, and the car’s driver took off at high speed. Officers pursued it until the car crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of North Ashley Street and East Gordon Street, police said.
The driver then tried to flee on foot before a police K9 unit apprehended him.
The suspect — described as a 44-year-old Stockbridge man — was taken to SGMC Health, where he was treated and released for injuries from a K9 bite, the statement said.
He has been charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, misdemeanor obstruction of an officer, misdemeanor hit and run-leaving the scene of an accident and numerous traffic violations, the policer statement said. He also had an active arrest warrant through Dekalb County, unrelated to this case.
“This was great work by our officers quickly responding to the area, along with the persistence of our K9 in apprehending this offender. At noon, traveling recklessly through major streets of our city, we are thankful that no one was seriously injured,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
