BLUE EARTH — Charges allege a man from Frost pointed a shotgun at police in Blue Earth during an incident in which an officer broke his foot on May 13.
Cory Tristan Hansen, 40, was recently charged with felony first-degree assault on an officer, two felonies for second-degree assault, felony obstruction, felony criminal vehicular operation, felony fourth-degree assault, felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor illegal transportation of a loaded firearm in Faribault County District Court.
A criminal complaint filed May 14 states Blue Earth police officers found Hansen sitting in a truck obstructing a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 169 and East Seventh Street. Hansen reportedly had a shotgun in his lap pointed toward the driver’s door while an officer was talking to him.
The officer recalled Hansen saying the gun was loaded and he planned to flee in the vehicle. Backup arrived and another officer attempted to take the shotgun, according to the complaint, at which time Hansen started driving away with the officer standing on the vehicle’s running board.
Hansen attempted to point the gun toward the officer during the struggle, the complaint states. Eventually the officer forced the gun free and jumped off the running board, causing him to fracture a bone in his foot.
An 8-mile pursuit ensued. At one point Hansen aimed his vehicle toward three Kwik Trip employees who were watching the scene, but a Faribault County sheriff’s deputy collided with Hansen’s vehicle to stop him before officers took him into custody.
Police confirmed the shotgun was loaded during the incident, according to the complaint.
