In a back-and-forth battle at Piper Field, the defending Northeastern Conference champions from Peabody had possession with a shot to break a tie — but they left the hosts with too much time.
After a stop and gaining possession, Marblehead quickly transitioned the other way and Maddie Forbes scored with only three seconds remaining to send the Magicians to a thrilling 11-10 victory. It was Forbes’ fourth goal of the game (in addition to three assists) and evened Marblehead’s record at 4-4 while handing the Tanners (3-2) their first NEC defeat since 2023.
“It was an incredible game,” Marblehead coach Annie Madden said. “We are proud of how our girls showed grit and resiliency from start to finish.”
Marblehead led 7-6 at halftime and got 11 saves from Molly Bullard. Additionally, Zoe Dwyer scored three times with one helper and Kathryn Commoss had two goals and two assists. Gretchen Smith (2 assists) and Ramona Gillett added solo goals and the Magicians’ ability to win draw controls was a major factor in the win.
Senior captain Brooke Lomasney led Peabody with six goals while Ally Bettencourt scored twice. Victoria Vaz and Madi Barrett netted one each and Caitlin Snow was credited with 11 saves.
