MOULTRIE – Tre Luttrell, son of Colquitt County linebackers and strength and conditioning coach Stan Luttrell, threw a touchdown pass for Carson-Newman on Saturday in the Eagles 31-28 overtime victory over Wingate, but later suffered a knee injury and left the game.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound senior completed all three of his passes for 101 yards, including the 4-yarder for the score to Jeremiah Carroll, before being hurt.
Playing on the offensive line for Carson-Newman is freshman former Packer Turk Daniels, who has started all three games for the Eagles.
Also playing for Carson-Newman this season are Daniels’s former Colquitt County teammates Jerron Blakely and Jay’Den Williams.
The 3-0 Eagles will play next on Saturday at Catawba.

• The Colquitt County Players of the Week for the 44-13 win over Rickards are:
Offense: A’Zhiyen Alridge, who had five pass receptions for 34 yards and his first career touchdown.
Offensive lineman: Jakari Byrd, who excelled even though he was forced to move from his previous right tackle position to left tackle.
Defense: 5-foot-8, 215-pound middle linebacker Brad Tuff Jr.
Defensive lineman: 5-foot-10, 250-pound junior nose guard Kamdon Gay.
Special teams: Senior kicker Brett Fitzgerald, who made all three field goal attempts, including a 50-yarder; made all five of his extra-point attempts; and sent all of his kickoff into the Rickards end zone, except for the onside kick that he himself recovered.
Brett is just two points away from setting a new Georgia high school record of 325 career points. His brother Ryan Fitzgerald currently holds the record of 324 points.
Academic: Fitzgerald, again. He has a cumulative grade point average of 98.25.
Scout team defense: Lineman Ny’Corius McNeil.
Scout team offense: Za’Rian Robinson.
• Le’Meke Brockington had two pass receptions for 43 yards for Minnesota in the Golden Gophers 31-14 loss to Iowa last Saturday.
Minnesota will play Saturday at Michigan.
• Freshman defensive lineman Ky’Von Rivers had one solo and three assisted tackles in Reinhardt’s 35-31 victory over Cumberlands (Ky.).
Reinhardt will play Saturday at Georgetown (Ky).
• In Georgia Tech’s 31-19 loss at Louisville, Omar Daniels had one solo and one assisted tackle.
The Yellow Jackets will play next on Oct. 5 at home against Duke.
• In Florida State’s 14-9 victory over Cal, Ryan Fitzgerald
converted after both Seminoles’ touchdowns. All three of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks.
The Seminoles will play on Saturday at SMU.
• Ty French had one solo and two assisted tackles and a quarterback hurry in West Virginia’s 32-28 win over Kansas.
French has made the Big 12 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
The 2-2 Mountaineers will play next on Oct. 5 at Oklahoma State.
• Tyler Walker had three catches for 14 yards when West Alabama defeated West Florida 35-33 last week to raise its record to 4-0.
In four games, Walker had eight catches for 159 yards an a touchdown.
The Lions will play at Valdosta State on Saturday.
• In Alabama A&M’s 59-16 loss to Austin Peay last week, Kaleb Dawson had five solo tackles, three assists and a tackle for loss.
The red-shirt senior, who formerly played at Appalachian State, starts in the secondary for Alabama A&M.
• Jaheim Ward had two solo tackles, two assists, one tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup for Eastern Kentucky in its 42-13 victory over Morehead State.
Now 2-2, the Colonels will be at home to face Robert Morris on Saturday.
• The Colquitt County High wrestling team will hold its annual Packer Scramble fund-raising tournament on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Sunset Country Club, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
The cost to enter is $500 for a four-person team or $125 per player.
There are $1,000 Platinum, $750 Corporate and $200 hole sponsorships available.

The Packer wrestling team is coming off its most successful season in school history after placing fifth in the Class 7A state tournament.
Wrestlers in nine of the 14 weight classes qualified for the state tournament.
Returning this season for the Packers will be defending 150-pound state champion Logan Paradice.
The two-time state champion has a Georgia high school record of 61-2 and is an eight-time All-American.
Also taking top-five finishes in the last season’s state tournament were freshman Cruz Grijalva, fifth at 120 pounds; Russell Flowers, fifth at 157 pounds; Matthew Dillon, third at 220 pounds; and Turk Daniels, second at 285 pounds.
Only Daniels has graduated.
The program has 40 wrestlers at the high school level and 40 at the middle school level.
Proceeds from the golf tournament help defray the cost of traveling to tournaments, hotels, entree fees and meals.
