VALDOSTA — As Tropical Storm Helene nears, the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County are providing sandbags to help with storm preparedness

Sand and sandbags will be available at the following locations; however, residents are asked to bring their own shovels to fill the bags. Sandbags are limited to ten bags per family. Below are the three locations:
— 5 Points.
— Intersection of Lee Street and Savannah Street.
— 901 West Hill (former recycling center).
The City encourages all residents to take advantage of these resources to ensure their homes and property are properly safeguarded against potential flooding and storm damage. For more information, please contact the Public Works Department at (229) 259-3588.

Lowndes County
In preparation for the incoming storm, Lowndes County Emergency Management is providing four locations beginning at 4 p.m. today where residents can pick up sand to help with storm preparedness. Sand and sandbags will be available at the following locations; however, residents are asked to bring their own shovels to fill the bags. Sandbags are limited to ten bags per household. Below are the four locations:
— The Fire Station on Shiloh Road, Station 6: 6031 Shiloh Road, Hahira.
— The Fire Station on Upper New Bethel Road, Station 6: 6187 Upper New Bethel Road, Valdosta.
— The Fire Station on Old Quitman Hwy: 3979 Old Quitman Highway, Valdosta.
— The old Fire Station location in Clyattville: 5000 Cedar Drive, Valdosta.
Sandbags are available while supplies last and at local retailers based on supply.
