VALDOSTA — Lowndes County Public Works will not provide curbside debris pickup in the aftermath of Hurricane Debby.
A statement on the county’s Facebook page said residents in unincorporated areas should contact their garbage pickup provider for instructions on debris removal, while those inside the city limits of Valdosta, Remerton, Hahira, Lake Park and Dasher should follow each city’s directions.
Burning is not allowed inside city limits, the statement said.
Residents should contact Waste Management regarding debris dropoff at their landfill.
Any tree contractor hired must haul off debris as part of their service; items placed at the right of way will be the homeowner’s responsibility to pick up or haul off, the county said.
The organization Crisis Cleanup has set up a phone line — 844-965-1386 — for those wanting help from volunteer organizations with cleanup. Various relief organizations, community groups and faith groups may be able to assist with trees, debris removal, tarps and muck-out services, another statement on the county’s Facebook said. Services would be free but cannot be guaranteed.
The hotline will be open through Aug. 23.
