PEABODY — Dr. Allen Feng, a head and neck oncology surgeon at Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute in Danvers and Mass Eye and Ear in Boston, will be honored with this year’s 16th Annual Hope Begins Here Award by the Boston North Cancer Association.
A press release said the award is in recognition of Feng’s extraordinary dedication to cancer patients and their families across the north of Boston region. Among other scholarship presentations, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded in Feng’s honor to a local high school student, who has personally faced cancer or who has been affected by cancer or loss of a parent to cancer, at the awards reception on May 6 at Danversport.
Feng is a fellowship-trained, head and neck surgeon who specializes in head and neck cancer and microvascular reconstruction. He completed his residency training at the Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Otolaryngology Residency Program and his head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction fellowship at the University of Michigan. His clinical interests include complex reconstructions after head and neck surgery and the development of biomedical devices for use in otolaryngology.
Feng has a passion for innovation in head and neck surgery, according to a press release, and uses his background in mechanical and biomedical engineering to create solutions for both oncologic and reconstructive problems in otolaryngology. His work has already led to over 60 peer-reviewed publications and several patent applications for his novel designs.
Feng’s clinical interests include head and neck cancer, robotic surgery, skull base surgery and microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck. He devotes a significant portion of his time to creating and refining novel surgical techniques for complex reconstructions, including innovative techniques for complex microvascular free tissue transfers.
