More than 3,000 members and guests of FFA chapters across the state traveled to Buffalo to compete in leadership and career development events from May 14 through May 16.
Six students from the DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus FFA chapter traveled with their advisor, Emily Anderson, to compete in the Maple Career Development Event contest and serve as delegates to the NYS FFA, according to a BOCES news release.
Charity Johnson and Calli Ruff, both from Unatego Central School, served as delegates, participating in discussions and votes on issues facing the FFA at the state level, including membership, district and substate competitions, how FFA can help grow tomorrow’s agricultural workforce and the New York State Fair, according to the release.
In the maple competition, Cody Taggart from Unatego placed second overall out of 250 competitors, and Isaac Jordan from Franklin Central School placed fifth. The maple team, with help from Alivia Plows and Alivia Vitek from Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School, finished eighth overall.
“This was a great accomplishment for the Harrold Campus FFA team, who were well-prepared by their instructors … Zach Whittaker and Ken Larsen,” the release stated.
