TIFTON – Colquitt County student, Wendy Marquez, was the Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District Poster Contest Winner, as well, as the first place winner for the county.
The Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual Poster Contest for 2nd and 3rd grade students within the district’s nine-county area. This year’s contest theme was “May the Forest Be with You, Always.”
Marquez is a third-grader at J.M. Odom Elementary School and her poster will be submitted to compete in the State Poster Contest.
Jhoana Garduno was the second place county winner and Aleyda Ruiz was the third place county winner. Both of them are third-graders at J.M. Odom Elementary School.
Education is a critical element of the conservation effort at the local, state and national levels. Educating young people about the benefits of conservation helps to ensure the next generation will be wise stewards of America’s natural resources.
The Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District is a unit of state government that directs natural resource management programs in Ben Hill, Brooks, Colquitt, Crisp, Irwin, Thomas, Tift, Turner and Worth counties.
