BASEBALL
Rockport 6, Danvers 0: The Vikings (5-12) picked up a big win, their second straight as they come down the regular season home stretch. Chase Wheat was terrific on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out three in a complete game shutout effort. Wheat helped his cause with a pair of hits and an RBI while Josiah Whitley, Pat Reardon and Warren Adams each mashed doubles. Gabe Gallagher, Whitley, Reardon and Beckett Guarino drove in the other runs and Rockport finished with 10 hits as a team. The Vikings will wrap up the regular season at Hamilton-Wenham on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.).
BOYS TENNIS
Gloucester 4, Salem 1: The Fishermen (8-10) closed out the regular season with a solid NEC win and will now await their seed in the upcoming Division 3 state tournament. Gloucester was ranked No. 26 in Tuesday’s release.
SOFTBALL
Amesbury 21, Rockport 3: Gretel Marshall went 2-for-3 with a two-run double for Rockport (0-17), but it wasn’t enough in Wednesday’s season finale loss. Kaity D’Annolfo added an RBI single while Natasha Proposki, Elizabeth Gentile and Marlin Welcome had hits.
In Monday’s 23-1 loss to Essex Tech, Marshall and Welcome each had hits while Olivia Flannagan had an RBI.
Bedford 2, Gloucester 1: The Fishermen (14-4) dropped their second straight game, and second to Bedford by the same score this season, despite another competitive effort. Freshman pitcher Abby Noble struck out nine in a complete game effort while Ava Paone and Mackayla Allen each had hits for Gloucester. Head coach Bryan Aiello’s squad now has two games to go (Friday vs. North Reading and Saturday at Marblehead) before the playoffs.
Georgetown 15, Manchester Essex 0: The Hornets (10-8) struggled to get their offense going in Wednesday’s setback. They’ll look to bounce back at home against Triton on Friday (4 p.m.).
GIRLS LACROSSE Manchester Essex 13, Essex Tech 4: The Hornets (11-6) wrapped up their regular season with a convincing win. They now await the release of the MIAA Division 4 state tournament brackets on Wednesday, May 28.
