Lawrence 16, Brockton 9
Angie Valdez went 4 for 5 and stole home to lead Lawrence to a season-opening win — believed to be the program’s first victory since the 2022 season, according to coach Shirley Peralta-Veras.
“I am very proud of the girls,” said Peralta-Veras. “This team has been working so hard out in the cold weather. They have been giving 100 percent, and really showing us as coaches what they want to be. To see it pay off so early is great. This is going to be a good season, I can feel it.”
Noreidy Bonilla was immense on the mound for the Lancers, striking out a whopping 16 Boxers. She did it while working with freshman catcher Analia Marter, who filled in behind the dish due to injury.
“Noreidy was amazing,” said Peralta-Veras. “Obviously every pitcher has a catcher they feel comfortable with. She had to adjust today, and they both performed like champs. Noreidy encouraged Analia so much and worked with her, and it showed such a great side of her.”
Also excelling at the plate for Lawrence was Yebriana Castillo, who went 3 for 4.
Whittier 5, Newton South 0
Kaylee Habib fired a no-hitter, striking out 14. Leading the Wildcat offense were Giovanna Ohannesian (3 hits, 2 RBIs) and Kayden Ouellette (2 hits, 2 RBIs).
North Andover 9, Wakefield 1
Jessica Voutour allowed just three hits and struck out 12 for the win on the mound. Riley Cogliano had two hits, drove in three runs and scored three more, while Riley Davis and Marisa Lizotte each had two RBIs.
Newburyport 14, Methuen 10
For the Rangers, senior captain Bella Medeiros and sophomore Ari Marchand had two hits each, while freshmen Addison Campbell, Ainsley Low and Samantha Chalupa each collected their first varsity hits.
Central Catholic 28, Dracut 4
Ava Perrotta notched four hits, scored four runs and drove in four more to lead the Raiders. Chloe Salerno and Olivia Moeckel each added five RBIs, Meg Maresca had three hits and scored three times and Emily Goc drove in three runs for the winners.
Reading 4, Haverhill 1
Ava Moscaritolo was strong on the mound for the Hillies, striking out five. Emma Proia, Ava Moscaritolo and Kaelyn Mazzaglia each collected a hit for Haverhill
Boys Lacrosse
Methuen 7, Haverhill 6
Haverhill’s Max Boyer made 25 saves to keep the Hillies in the game. For Haverhill, Patrick McGowan scored three goals, while Trevor Lindmark, Connor Damske and Brewer Murray each scored once.

Greater Lawrence 78, Shawsheen 58
Elizardo Melenciano was once again a force, winning the 400 (52.66), 110 hurdles (14.62), 400 hurdles (58.67) and long jump (21-1). Jesus Guzman won the shot put (46-1) and discus (142-6.5) and Gustavo Varela took the 100 dash (11.51) and 200 (23.49).

Greater Lawrence 84, Shawsheen 51
Kelley De Leon-Lopez won the mile (6:50.35) and 2-mile (14:28.30). Jaheidy Ortiz took the 100 hurdles (17.19), 400 hurdles (1:12.17) and triple jump (31-2.5) and Haleigh Cyr won the high jump (5-0) and long jump (16-9).

Scoring wins were Nik Narina (6-2, 6-3), Sam Gomer (6-3, 6-2), Kian Keyhan (6-0, 6-0) and doubles Matt Wang and Ryan Furlong (6-1, 6-1) and Cameron Nutter and Ricky Tran (6-0, 6-0).

Cole Mullen threw four no-hit innings for the victory. Sean Kylcoyne and Ben Iglesias each scored a pair of runs for the winners.
Phillips 11, Marianapolis Prep 0
North Andover’s Michael Gilligan went five strong innings, scattering three hits and one walk while striking out four to get the win over the Connecticut foe. Haverhill’s Caleb Penn added a double, and postgrad catcher Logan Umbach added a two-run double. also added a 2 RBI double.
Volleyball
Haverhill 3, Central Catholic 2
Leading the Hillies were Brady Paris (14 kills), Peter Grillo (28 assists) and Kole Sindoni (3 blocks, 4 aces). For the Raiders, Sebastien Masse scored four kills, five blocks and an ace. Michael Najjar added 10 assists and 13 service points and Elijah Hong had 19 digs.

Scarlet Knights goal scorers were Isa Robinson (5), Meghan Daley (3) and Julianna Taylor (2). Taylor Farrell made eight saves.
