It didn’t come easy most of the time, but the Newburyport field hockey team was able to overcome a tough goalie to take down Lynnfield on Wednesday, 5-0. The Clippers (3-0-1) got separate goals from Ella Loomes, Lottie O’Brien, Ciara Geraghty, Olivia Wilson and Reese Bromby to pick up their third straight win — following a season-opening tie against Pentucket.
Reportedly, though, goalie Abbie Allen put together a remarkable effort and had 31 saves in the loss for the Pioneers.
Flaherty, Pentucket roll over Rockport
The Pentucket field hockey team had little issue in this one.
Senior captain and returning Daily News All-Star Katherine Flaherty had two goals with an assist, and the Panthers were able to cruise past Rockport on Wednesday, 7-1. Also scoring goals for the winners was Cassidy Roche, Abbie Felzani, Ella Palmer, Cat Colvin and Kayla Murphy.
Pentucket (2-1-1) will look for its first two-game winning streak of the season when it travels to Division 1 foe Central Catholic on Friday night (7 p.m.).
Rookie leads Newburyport golf
A new face enjoyed a breakout day for the Newburyport golf team.
During Wednesday’s match against Lynnfield, freshman Sam Luekens was the top golfer for both teams, scoring 30 Stableford points to lead the Clippers to a 156-136 victory.
Teammate Jack Oreal was right behind him with 28 points, and both Austin Yim and Davis Pons had 26.
