The goal differential through four games now: 64-13.
It’s been pure domination so far from the Newburyport boys lacrosse team, and on Thursday that showed itself in a 15-5 victory over Essex Tech. Leading the way offensively was Colin Fuller, who had 4 goals with 2 assists for the Clippers (4-0). But Davis Pons (2a), Carter Scott and Asher Kinsey (2a) each scored twice, and the team’s final tallies came from Sam Craig, Eli Sirota, Henry Walker, Matt Page and Luke MacIsaac.
And once again, Page was lights out in the faceoff circle to continuously give Newburyport possession. The Clippers will look to make it five in a row to open their season when they host a Division 1 opponent in Concord-Carlisle on Monday (4 p.m.).
Pentucket girls tennis gets first win
The Pentucket girls tennis team is on the board.
Friday afternoon, the Panthers enjoyed a dominant outing from everyone on the courts, racing past Winthrop, 5-0, for their first victory of the season. Evelyn Dunn won in a 6-0, 6-0 clean sweep at No. 2 singles, and the team’s other singles wins came from Katie Hella (6-0, 6-2) and Kaylie Linehan (6-2, 6-3).
Then at doubles, the top unit of Sophie Marcus and Sophia Nickerson won 6-2, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Riley Duggan and Paige Nottingham cruised to the 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Another close loss for Newburyport girls tennis
Talk about a tough schedule to open the season.
Earlier in the week, the Newburyport girls tennis team had to kick off its 2025 campaign playing the three-time defending Division 4 State Champions, Hamilton-Wenham. The Clippers fought the champs to the final point, but ultimately were on the wrong end of a 3-2 setback.
And things didn’t get any easier on Friday, when the Clippers traveled down to a strong Division 2 opponent in Marblehead and fell by the same score. The Magicians made the Div. 2 Round of 16 a year ago.
