If the Amebury boys continue to run like this, then they’ll be a serious contender at the CAL Open.
How about your top-5 runners all being within 59 seconds of each other?
That was the case for the Redhawks on Wednesday afternoon at Woodsom Farm, as they took the opening five spots to sweep Georgetown, 15-50. Out in front was two-time Daily News All-Star senior Josiah Fugate, who crossed first in 16:12. Then it took less than a minute for the next four Redhawk runners to come home, with Harrison Sullivan in second (16:16), Ty Giangregorio in third (16:17), Landon Mitchell in fourth (17:10) and Ben Clocher in fifth (17:11).
Amesbury (2-0) stayed undefeated with the win.
“The boys ran well in ideal conditions,” said Amesbury coach Ernie Bissaillon. “They have some big tests coming up over the next few weeks.”
Meanwhile, the Amesbury girls did not race as Georgetown didn’t have the numbers to field a team.
Pentucket cross country takes down Lynnfield
You’re probably not going to find two closer races than this all season.
Both Pentucket cross country teams picked up huge victories over Lynnfield on Wednesday afternoon at Pipestave, with the girls winning 25-30. Out in front for the Panthers was returning Daily News All-Star senior Susan Wisniewski as the overall meet medalist, and she was followed by teammates Monica Shinners in third, Nella Snyder in sixth, Mae Kesner in seventh and Harper Hosman in eighth.
Yet somehow the boys’ race between these two schools was even closer, with Pentucket squeaking out the 27-29 win. Grayson Shikes crossed the finish line first as overall meet medalist, then rounding out the top-5 on the day for the Panthers was Nick Hunter in second, Josh Tangora in fourth, Rhyas Dewer in ninth and Tyler Truong in 11th.
Both Pentucket teams are now 1-1.
Another sweep for Newburyport volleyball
There’s an undeniable winning quality with this Newburyport volleyball team.
The Clippers just don’t know how to lose.
During their first two matches of the season, the Clippers showed that they could dig deep and win a pair of five-setters. But ever since then it’s been five straight 3-0 sweeps, with this latest one coming on Wednesday night during a non-league home match against Marblehead. This time, however, the undefeated Clippers (7-0) continued to show that even during individual sets they could close, winning all three nailbitters, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21.
Ava Bailey did a bit of everything for the team during the win, finishing with 4 kills, 5 aces and 3 blocks. Then elsewhere for the Clippers, Gabby Vigeant provided 5 kills and 4 aces.
