This could end up being a special senior year for Triton’s Douglas Aylward.
The three-time Daily News All-Star came into this winter season as the most decorated returning wrestler in the area, and so far he’s lived up to the hype. The reigning Division 3 State Champion at 182 pounds a year ago, Aylward has bumped up to 215 this year and is now 8-0 through three meets with an impressive eight pins.
At the Big Red Championship over the weekend, Aylward went 4-0 for the meet with four pins, cruising his way to the 215-pound tournament title. Thanks to his efforts, Triton (4-0) as a team finished seventh out of 15 squads with 102 points.
But plenty of other Vikings had big days.
{div}It was the first ever varsity tournament for freshman Ben Imlach, and the 126-pounder went 5-1 to place third in his weight class. Aiden Quinn went 4-2 and placed fourth at 126, another freshman in Nikolas Rigol went 1-2 for the day and took fourth, and a third freshman in Jordan Ortiz impressed with three wins and just missed placing.{/div}
HANDFUL OF HIGHLIGHTS FOR PENTUCKET/NEWBURYPORT WRESTLING
Also over the weekend was the Anthony Lisitano Wrestling Tournament down in Wakefield, and the Pentucket/Newburyport co-op team was in attendance.
The Panthers would end up placing eighth out of 16 teams, and certainly had plenty of highlights to build on moving forward.
Two-time Daily News All-Star Tanner Kamuda led the way and placed second at 132, and Mason Skinner had a strong showing and was third at 190. You then had Aiden Burrier add a fourth at 215, and both Martin DeJusus (126) and Lucas Parenteau (138) finished sixth in their weight class.
