There’s a new Amesbury record holder in the shot put.
Last week, star senior Aiden Donovan etched his name into school history with a toss of 52-3 at the second CAL Meet of the season. The Division 1 UMass Amherst track commit is already a two-time Daily News Indoor Track All-Star, and was our 2023 Outdoor Track MVP.
So, really, he still has 1.5 seasons to break his new record.
And just in totality, it’s already been a heck of a senior season athletically for Donovan. He was named a Daily News Football All-Star this fall for the second straight season, after he captained the Redhawks to the Division 7 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. A middle linebacker/offensive lineman, he finished with a team-high 93 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, an interception and a defensive touchdown, while offensively he helped the team rush for 3,567 yards collectively. Besides being honored by the Daily News, he was also named the Boston Globe’s Division 7 Athlete of the Year in football as well as a Boston Herald All-Scholastic.
But track has become Donovan’s main sport.
Between the rest of this winter season and then the spring, it’ll be fun to see how many times he can break his own shot put school record.
