NEWBURYPORT — All are invited to a reading of the one-act play, “January 6th — A Day Forever” on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 3 p m., being held at Jabberwocky Book Store writer’s room.
The play was written by James Carroll and Rachel DeWoskin, two writers from Writers for Democratic Action (WDA), a national volunteer organization devoted to supporting democracy.
The setting is Washington D.C., the second impeachment trial of Donald J. Trump, excerpted from the Congressional record for WDA. Those present in the audience are imagined to be U.S. senators.
This is the third one-act play reading to be performed in Newburyport. The seven dramatic roles are played by local residents and political leaders, Sarah Hall, Donna Holaday, Charlie Tontar, Barry Connell, Judy Muradian, Diana Kerry and Chris Cunningham.
“This is an important time to look back on the fifth anniversary of this traumatic event which took place in our country’s capital and horrified us all. We can’t shut our eyes to this history which some are trying to rewrite. All are invited to this community event and to be part of the conversation which will take place after the reading,” Katherine Gendron, who organized this event, said.
The book store is located inside the Tannery Marketplace, 50 Water St., Newburyport.
