Gus Hall, Isaiah Nicastro, Evelyn Bergeron and Anna Sergi opened the first night with personal bests in the mile. On Day 2, Teagan O’Rourke and Lucas Ochs hit personal bests in the 1000 before Caroline Eliassen ran a PR in the 300. Frankie Muniz and Charlie Mannal added PRs in the 55 hurdles; Muniz and Calvin Yukins had PRs in the 1000; and Massi Colarusso, Charlie Thurlow, Ronan McGilligan and Richie Grant ran PRs in the 300. On the final day, Annie Kent, Abby Kent and Maya Frangioso snagged PRs in the 55 dash while Tess Taylor ran a PR in the 200 meter.
CAL meets vs. Amesbury
In the clash with Amesbury, the Hornets final CAL meet before the league championships, the girls picked up a 56-43 win to finish 3-1 in league dual meets for the first time in 10 years. Taylor won the 55 hurdles and 55 dash; Eleanor Hall and Sergi took first and second, respectively, in the mile, with Hall hitting a season best; Melina Binieris broke the 1:50 barrier in the 600 meter for the first time, running a PR and taking first, while Abby Kent took second. In the 1000, Cia Donohoe came out on top while Teagan O’Rourke took second with a PR. Sergi then doubled back to take third and a critical point. Bergeron and Adelaide Hall surprised for a 1-2 finish in the 2-mile with Bergeron debuting in the event at 12:43 and Hall running a 20-second PR in 12:44. In the 300, Binieris took first with another PR. Caroline Eliassen was second in the long jump tying a PR, while the 4×200 relay team of Taylor, Binieris, Donohoe and Kent took first to round out the scoring.
The boys, meanwhile, fell to Amesbury by a 66-34 score. Noah Cohen took second in the 55 dash with James Donohoe taking third with a PR. Charlie Thurlow was second in the high jump and Alec Rizzico third. Rizzico also nabbed third in the long jump. Gus Hall secured a win in the mile with Isaiah Nicastro taking second with a PR. Division 5 relays
Finally, in the D5 relay meet last Friday, both the Hornets boys and girls teams fielded multiple relay teams with full squads for the night’s events “demonstrating the growth and depth of the team this year,” according to coach Brian Davis.
The highlight of the night was the girls 4×200 relay team of Taylor, Binieris, Donohoe and Abby Kent taking fourth place out of the 58-team field. Their time was good enough for third on Manchester Essex’s all-time list. Not to be outdone, the girls 4×50 yard shuttle team of Taylor, Annie Kent, Donohoe and Abby Kent took ninth out of 57 teams and moved into first on the Hornets’ all-time list for the event. The 4×55 shuttle team of Taylor, Lyla McGrath, Tessa Novak and Claire Yukins ran to a third place on the M-E all-time list, with the sprint medley relay of Donohoe, Novak, Eliassen and Binieris taking 13th out of 47 teams. The distance medley relay of Adelaide Hall, Eliassen, O’Rourke and Sergi was 14th out of 30 while McGrath threw a PR for her team in the shot put relay.
On the boys side, the sprint medley team of Cohen, Rizzico, Adare Foster and Tyler Cummins was 29th out of 51 teams and third on the M-E all-time list. The 4×200 of Cohen, McGilligan, Thurlow and Rizzico was 17th of 59 with a season best time; the distance medley relay of Nicastro, Foster, Devin Peavey and Gus Hall was 16th of 32; and the shot put relay of Elliot Davis (PR), Massi Colarusso (PR) and David Broadbent moved into fifth on the all-time Hornets’ list. Three other relay teams grabbed first place spots on Manchester’s all-time list, too: the 4×50 shuttle of Cohen, Teddy Pinkin, Thurlow and Luke Renzi; the 4×50 hurdle shuttle relay of Renzi, Mannal, Thurlow and Muniz; and the long jump relay of Rizzico (PR), Mannal (PR) and James Donohoe.
