NORTH MANKATO — American Legion Post 518 will fly a flag in April to honor Army Cpl. Lloyd Arthur Duenow.
Members will gather at 10 a.m. April 4 at Wheeler Park in lower North Mankato to begin the monthlong tribute.
Duenow was born Nov. 5, 1934, in McLeod County. He attended school in Arlington. Donna Pagel and he married Nov. 9, 1955, in Sibley County. Donna died in 1956. Grace Petzel and he were married in 1958. They made their home in Gaylord. He had worked at local elevators and meat markets and Waldbaum/Crystal Foods.
His military service in the U.S. Army began in 1953. He served in the Signal Corps and was stationed in Germany.
He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal/Germany, National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Duenow was honorably discharged Feb. 28, 1955. He was a member of the Korean Last Man Standing, American Legion Post 95, VFW Post 5102, Glencoe Sportsman Club, Glencoe Color Guard and First Lutheran Church. Over the years, he donated over 32 gallons of blood to American Red Cross.
He died in 2024 in Hutchinson.
