BRASHER FALLS — Get in a literary frame of mind this Saturday.
The second annual Local Author Festival takes place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crapser Hall, 897 NY-11C, Brasher Falls.
The free event will be held on the second floor of the Badenhausen Public Library. Handicap access is located in the rear of the building.
“The Local Author Festival started because Brasher is blessed to have quite a few authors who live in the Tri-town area here in Brasher Falls,” Laurel Murphy, library director, said.
“We used to have them come one at a time to do an author visit, but we thought it would be a great opportunity both for the public, the community, and the authors themselves, to be able to get together at once.
“This is our second year, and the first year we had a pretty good turnout of authors. They enjoyed talking with each other. They were able to talk about publishers that they used, some of their methods, why they’re authors and that kind of thing.”
There will be children’s, adult fiction and nonfiction authors attending this year, including Mark Manske, Pendra King, Belle Burgoyne, Holly Chorba, Pat McKeown, S.H. Livernois, Barbara Briggs Ward and Tricia Livernois.
“We have Mark Manske, the Adirondack raptor guy. He writes kids’ chapter books. I think he’s on book 10 now. He’s usually comes, and it’s always fun to listen to his stories,” Murphy said.
“The format for the day, each author has a table set up with whatever they like to. They have the ability to sell books at that time.”
Attendees can table surf to meet the authors, purchase books, get them signed and talk to the writers one-on-one.
“We segue into a portion of the event where the authors, if they’ve chosen to present, they can present about their most recent book or why they choose to write or a project they’re working on. That kind of thing,” Murphy said.
“At the end, we kind of do a question-and-answer forum for anybody in the audience who are thinking about becoming an author. They have the ability to ask how was the publishing process for you. That kind of thing.
“We offer door prizes, and we have light refreshments available, as well.”
