Gloucester’s Seamus Linehan has dazzled in the 400 meter hurdles all spring, finishing runner-up at last week’s Division 4 state championships.
On Thursday, the junior standout represented the Fishermen in that marquee event at the annual Meet of Champions held at Merrimack College.
Linehan started incredibly strong, staying among the leaders of the pack until a slight hiccup ultimately landed him in 16th overall in the ever-completive field with a time of 56.75 seconds.
“He ran great,” said GHS coach David Coleman. “He clipped the eighth hurdle which cost him a second or so; was leading his heat up to that point.”
Linehan was the lone Gloucester trackster to compete on Thursday, and he’ll be back in competition on Saturday with the rest of his 4×400 relay team. For that event, he’ll run alongside teammates Vinny Mannone, Deion Kasera and Jeferson Do Carmo.
On the girl’s side, Carla Kasera will compete in the long jump on Saturday as well. She is coming off a third place finish in the same event at the D4 state championships.
