LANDOVER — Allegany’s Briley Linaburg and Fort Hill’s MaeLeigh Plummer earned silver medals at the Class 1A indoor track and field state championships held Wednesday, and six more locals placed.
Linaburg took second in the pole vault with a school-record height of 10 feet.
Plummer, who signed to Division 1 James Madison earlier this winter, medaled in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. The senior is a three-time state champion jumper in outdoor, claiming two long jump crowns and a triple-jump title.
Top eight finishers in events also earn points towards a team’s total.
Southern’s Ben Brobst was the next highest-placing local, taking fifth in the 1600m with a time of 4:41.64.
Allegany’s Wade Napier was sixth in the 500m with a school record 1:09.40, Fort Hill’s Casey Martz was sixth in the shot put (43’ 7.75”), Alco’s Ryan Wu took seventh in shot put (42’ 9.85”), Mountain Ridge’s Landon Sweitzer placed seventh in the 1600m (4:41.87), and the Sentinels’ Kamryn Rice finished eighth in the 1600m (5:49.62).
Rice also placed 11th in the 3200m (13.33.25) and was part of the Fort Hill 4×800 relay team of Kearstyn Rice, Lyla Silber and Lakyn Farris that got 11th (11:39.14).
Fort Hill’s Ella Bennett took 10th in the high jump (4’ 8”).
Allegany’s 4×400 relay of Dusty Long, Aidyn McKenzie, Seb Sharp and Cade Crawford came in 11th with a season-best 3:46.36, and Emma Strother notched a personal-best 2:38.73 in the 800m to take 12th.
Southern’s Abbi Beeman came in 13th in the shot put with a heave of 29’ 1.25”, and Northern’s Ted Guingrich was 21st in the 1600m (5:07.82).
